Arnold Schönberg
Seraphita op. 22/2
Text: Ernest Dowson, Übersetzung von Stefan George
1913
Arnold Schönberg Center, Wien
In an Analysis of the Four Orchestral Songs, Schönberg wrote in 1932: “This way and this way alone is how so-called Expressionism originated: that a piece of music does not generate its outward form from the logic of its own material, but, led by the feeling for internal or external processes, as it expresses these processes, it supports itself on their logic and builds upon that.”
